MY FIRST BLIND DATE

I must say I was feeling quite apprehensive after that phone call. It was my first blind date and I hadn't a clue as to how it would turn out. The lady at the other end said she would be at my place at five o'clock in the evening. This was after weeks of correspondence by email where we had even exchanged photographs. Now that I was going to see her in person, my trepidation increased. How would she actually look? Were the photos really hers? Strong coffee was the only answer to these queries (alcohol was a strict no - no as she had promised we would go for a drive). I felt that if she was even half as beautiful as her photographs, my date would be a resounding success.

The doorbell rang promptly on the hour. There she stood smiling in front of me, a tall, statuesque, golden tanned beauty with chinky eyes like a Japanese. Her skin was smooth, her body lithe and gracefully curved and incredibly sexy. Her name, when she introduced herself, was reminiscent of flower petals, beautifully shaped, unbelievably soft and smooth as silk to touch. I could not take my eyes off her and must have stared open-mouthed for quite some time. She was probably used to being stared at because she laughed and beckoned to me "Come on goldfish, let's go for a drive."

She moved effortlessly, as though she was walking on air. Undoubtedly, she was a head turner wherever she went. People stopped and gaped at her just like I had done. I could sense their envy as well when they looked at me. Who is this Quasimodo and how come he has such a beautiful creature with him? Perversely enough, I did not feel hurt. On the contrary, every time their eyes narrowed on seeing me, I felt a surge of pride as though I had something that they could not possess even in their wildest dreams.

We did not exchange a single word throughout the drive. I felt extremely comfortable in her presence. As for her, her smile said it all. Both of us sensed that we had found a partner for life. We came back and promised to meet the next day. The rest, as they say, is history.

Today she is part of my life. I cannot imagine living even a moment without her. She has enriched my home with her presence. My status in the neighbourhood and at my workplace has escalated ten-fold. At parties and get-togethers she is the talking point. Strangely, even today, I feel that surge of pride whenever anyone talks about her. She still turns heads wherever she goes. But the sheer magic of that first day - my first blind date with her - will remain with me forever. It was love at first sight. Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention her name. It is Corolla.
