DPF System

DPF System Introduction

Regeneration

The process of purifying and emptying the trapped PM(Particulate Matter) in Diesel Particulate Filter is called DPF Regeneration.
This process prevents the DPF filter from clogging.

1. Particulate matter accumulation

2. Regeneration

3. Clean DPF

  1. The PM or soot will react with the residual oxygen in the exhaust gas and will be cleared from the DPF filter.
  2. If exhaust temperature is low for an extended period of time, PM cannot be oxidized and cleared.
  3. ECM constantly monitors the DPF accumulation. If accumulation crosses a certain limit, ECM performs regeneration control to reduce PM.
  4. The temperature of the oxidation and DPF filter is forcefully increased to bring about the conditions for regeneration.
  5. DPF filter temperature is increased by adding fuel from the additional exhaust fuel injector, there by oxidizing the PM.
